This week's remix: SuperGreenX - Ico: Save Me
Wait - let me guess what you're thinking ... 'There was music in Ico?' I certainly hope you aren't wondering 'What's Ico?' (if so, you should take a gander over here). I agree with you though - Ico was a quiet, muted game where the richness was in it's simplicity and attention to detail. You wouldn't think it'd lend itself well to a hard trance remix now would you?
SuperGreenX's Save Me thematically borrows from the musical piece murmured on Ico's (ready for this?) save game screen. It's a rather indistinct melody that floats in one ear and other the other, sounding vaguely familiar and foreign at the same time. The same quality is imported and harbored in this rather long remix, clocking in at an imposing eight minutes and 50 seconds. As you might expect from this sort of genre it starts subtly and arches forward in a peaceful, yet energetic manner, building to a tightly bound fusion of electronic frequencies. However, akin to Ico the devil is the details - near the peaks buried vocal samples from throughout Ico (and I do mean all throughout) blend into the song's framework, putting the cap on a wonderfully nuanced and magnificently constructed remix.
Update 05/06/2004 - With mp3.com having went *poof*, the link has been updated to the minimally changed OCRemix version. -G. Turner.
