Updates and Adventures!

November 22, 2005 By R. LeFeuvre

First and foremost: NaViGaWriMo is delayed until January, which is a less-holiday ridden month. I will be spending December working on other misc. projects so perhaps I will post about them during the month instead.

Come January, though, Genki Genki will start it's process from design document to complete game experience. With programmer art! Woooo!

NEXT!

I am two games closer to having every necessary PS2 title on the planet:

1) Mister Mosquito! I almost bought this game when it first came out, but I choose the other "Fresh" title at the time, Mad Maestro (also a great game!). I'm digging the game, although the mechanics haven't really changed much between levels. The bathroom stage makes me giggle, and I wonder how many games the screenshot with the girl in the bathtub sold.

It's a simple idea but executed well, and completely worth the $15 I found it used for. I'm having hard getting into the game right now, but I think I'm just not in the mood. It also has plenty to unlock, and I'm all about 100% save files, so once I get absorbed into it at least it will be able to hold my attention for a good measure.

2) Gitaroo Man!! Ugh. Getting this game was quite the adventure.

I found out that the game was rumored to be reprinted. Well, this fact excited me, seeing as I really wasn't into the idea of paying $100+ on ebay for a copy. I'm not sure what video game is worth that cost...

GameStop.com's 'game search' seemed to back up the claim though, as it listed every single store within 200 miles of my house as 'getting more shipped'. A very unusual thing for a game that should be out of print! A couple days later and every single store listed Gitaroo Man as in stock!!

Woo!

After watching Harry Potter 4 (and enjoying it), I stopped in at one of the four local GameStops.

"That new guitar game?"

"No. No there's no guitar. It's called Gitaroo Man and you should have just receive it awhile ago"

Luckily someone there remembered having it -- but it was sold out quickly.

Hrm. Well, one of my local GameStops have to have it... right?

Not a one. Although I still think that at least one of the stores never understood that I wasn't talking about a game with a guitar. Man, does anyone working at these stores actually know a damn thing about games?!

Not willing to give up I head to Fry's Electronics. On the way in I pass 3 people standing in line for Xbox 360. WTF? There's no Gitaroo Man on Xbox 360... whats the point.

Anyway... I walk up to the 'games' section and ask the dude if they have Gitaroo Man.

"That's the Guitar game?"

"No. No guitar. It's called Gitaroo Man, it's got a wacky anime cover and there's no guitar."

"So there's a guitar?"

(I shit you not)

"No. There's no guitar. It's not Guitar Hero. It's spelled G-I-T-A-R-O-O."

He types "guitar".

"There's no U. G-I-T-A-R-O-O"

He types "gitarro"

"No no, one R two Os"

"Is it for PS2?"

"Yup."

He types "PS2 git"

OMG yes he is.

"We do have it. Under general."

Well, after not finding it in general he locates it in "lockup", a large plastic case full of games. After opening two Master padlocks and a slide lock, I get my game.

My copy of mother fucking Gitaroo Man.

Damn, this better be the best fucking game ever.

That's probably the best summary of the Xbox 360 launch I've ever read.

You bet your ass it is!

I can't believe I had no idea the game was rare and highly valued. I've bought two copies since it came out, one for myself the week after it was released and the second for a friend as a birthday present! Definitely one of my favorite games from the current console generation, and my second favorite rhythm game only to Samba de Amigo.

He should have purchased both, then sent me Guitar Hero.

I can't wait to try my hand at that game. :(

I do better. I'll get Gitaroo Man and DK Jungle Beat and keep them both.

And I did too.
