Am I up too late or...

April 10, 2005 By R. LeFeuvre

So people are getting up in arms about a supposed new ARG (alternate reality games - think www.ilovebees.com, the viral marketing campaign that got thousands of people to flock around payphones to unlock info about Halo 2) that rewards "players" with photos from the next-gen Xbox. Basically, people muddle around a site solving puzzles are in return are rewarded with pictures that are Xbox 2.

Again, allegedly.

Images like this sorta work for me. I mean, I'm still not convinced, but at least it's substantial enough to allow you to debate.

But one piece of "evidence" that GameSpot puts forth to prove this point is this image.

And here's their explaination:
"[...]one of the distorted images on the Ourcolony.net home page features an Xbox power button. When compared to a current-generation Xbox's power button, the pattern is unmistakable, although it is now set against a silvery background."

Whoa!!! That icon from the ARG is tottaly the same one that is on the Xbox power button. That PROVES that pic is from NextBox 360. The new system is shiny!! And it can be turned on!

Ummmm, apparently the writers and editors of Gamespot do not realize that that symbol means power. Like everywhere. Take a look at your cell phone. Or your PC Tower button. Or do a GIS for "power button". So either Microsoft has REALLY good foresight and starting like 50 years ago got their power logo to end up everywhere (even on Sony's PS2) for this ONE tiny markteting campaign to pay off or the people at GameStop are amazingly ignorant.

I'm not totally missing something here... am I?
