I demand a recount!

March 6, 2005 By R. LeFeuvre

Months and months ago the Sony Metreon announced that it would be creating the "Walk of Game", a video game industry version of Hollywood's Walk of Fame. This sounds cool (or it did to me at least) in theory, but the whole thing is extremely flawed.

The two categories blow. Well, "Lifetime Achievement" isn't so bad, but I still don't get "Game/Character." Why bunch that together?! I realize that I'm being a little too critical and if that was the only problem I could live with it.

What really gets me is, while the entries are first chosen by some sort of "survey" from the within the industry (the specifics of this commitee are a mystery), the actual inductees are chosen from that list by popular vote. Lame.

A Game/Character category... Gamers voting on the web... Any method where Cloud Strife could, in theory, win a Star away from ICO is just crap.

Anyway... the first six inductees were announced (way back in November, but I just noticed) and I'm not sold. Why did Halo win a star? And why do people continue to give credit to Nolan Bushnell for the creation of Pong!?

Congratulations to the winners, especially Miyamoto who has done like three lifetimes of achievement. You've all been given the newest crappy video game award.

Thankfully, across the street they will be giving out real awards this Wednesday.
