Life Sucks and then You Graduate... maybe

February 1, 2005 By R. LeFeuvre

I'm currently in the midst of my final two quarters of school, majoring in Visual & Game Programming. What this means is that I am taking my last few focused classes (things like programming shaders, motion capture, writing my own renderer, artificial intelligence and other such coolness) and also working on my Senior Project (which I'm doing on Artificial Intelligence, specifically Boids) so that I can go land a cool job in the industry.

Today, I got sucker punched in the gut. Apprently I'm not on track to graduate next quarter. There was some sorta confusion and I have three quarters (including this one) left because I have too many classes left to finish. (If anyone thinks they can take 7 classes during their last quarter - email me.)

I'm still kinda sick from the shock. Not that I hate the school... but honestly, I'm so ready to be done and get back into "career" mode. Maybe it's for the best -- I will have a lot more time my last quarter to tighten up my portfolio. It's just hard to see past the fact that I will be in school for an additional 3 months.

I always hear people say "It's good time to be back in school since the industry sucks right now." Well, what do you say when the industry is really strong and school sucks?
