Rockstar in Chicago

July 28, 2006 By Glenn Turner

While snacking in a local pub after some fine Saturday garage saling, I noticed the following in this week's edition of The Onion:

Onion/Table Tennis in Chicago

To summarize, this Wednesday (August 2nd) Rockstar is coming to Chicago, and they're putting table tennis back where it belongs: the tavern! The icing on the cake? Free beer (well, at least for the first hour).

It's a nice, albeit oddly timed, promotional effort for the city to receive, especially since most video game companies that decide to grace Chicago actually end up setting up camp outside of the city, making it impossible for any car-less urbanite to attend (Nintendo, this means you! Your rumored Wii tour had better be right near an 'L stop!)

So if you're in the area this Wednesday, we'd recommend following our lead and swinging on by. The pub is pretty decent and easy to get to via public transit or car. And hey, free games and drink? You can't beat that.

Now my mind's completely boggled as to why Rockstar's putting on this event, especially since their Soft Serve tour (a portable Art/Music/Video/Clothing/Game installation) just kicked off today in Miami, and will be in Chicago in later this month.

I'll give you two guesses which frothy event I'd rather attend, and the first one doesn't count.

My guess is they are targeting two different classes of citizens. =D
