Mario Magnet Madness!

April 17, 2006 By Glenn Turner

A few weeks ago, I posted about some Kidrobot tchotchkes, including their Super Mario Magnets. Well, it's not Kidrobot, but have a looksee at what I found at a local store.

Mario magnet figures? But what magnets are in them?? Maybe if I peek at the top I can figure out ...

Look, there's little Mario, jumping in the air through a hole in the cover! How clever and tricky this packaging is. Now what about the series two box?

Ah, it's Fire Mario, and he's about to squash some goombas. I see.

Oh, so the first box had a crouching Mario & a coin! This coin though, it doesn't really stick to anything but Mario, which makes it rather hard to create the illusion that it's floating above his head.

Hey, it's Luigi! With a box they can ...hide behind.

Or stack and climb to the heavens!

As evidenced by the side of the boxes, there are many more to collect, and I think I will. They certainly do look like the Kidrobot magnets though, however the packaging states it's a Banpresto job.

Regardless, they certainly do spruce up the ol' refrigerator and have earned their spots next to our 'Private Ham - NASA Chimp' and 'Iron Chef - 21st Century Battle' magnets. Keep up the good work Mario Bros.!

I've seen those around in novelty stores before in New York. Liooks like you got yourself some "booster packs." There are "starter boxes" you can get that come with a magnetic backdrop of one of the stages as well. If they' weren't so pricy (and if I had more magnetic surfaces to put them on), I would have invested. ah well.

Oh that's so awesome!

I assume not so much a chain store though... any clues as to where to check for them?

Goombas, they're goombas!

Has the world gone mad?

I bought some of those from Lik Sang, but some of the magnets were kinda weak.

That is the coolest shit I've ever seen.
