Mr. Newstyle VG Remix Guy #2!

March 3, 2005 By D. Riley

Well peccaui hasn't cold cocked me with a sock full of oranges, yet. So I guess it's safe to preceed. Only because I love Ronn so much, do I do this.

This week has been... complicated in the terms of videogame mixes. Nothing that's particularly caught my fancy has crossed my desk, however a curious little trance-y rendition of a Ninja Gaiden 2 theme from S|r NutS (however the hell you spell it) put me on a quest. A quest to find me some kickin' Ninja Gaiden 2 themes!

Unfortunately, there just aren't a lot to be found. Here's what I got:

S|r NutS's own track, Ashtar's Desires, feels significantly less trance-like than his other works. This is good for someone like me who gets physically nauseous at even the merest whiff of trance. I can generally sit through this song and only need to vomit my brains out ONCE, which is bragable. S|r NutS drags out what's my favorite part of the original song (doo doo doo doo doo doo doo) into a 4 minute work. The best points are when he really lets go with that. Best points being the intro (which manages to be a BIT too lengthy, but pays off) and the piano -> flute -> synth at 2:38, finally breaking out to the full on thing at 3:25. That makes me feel warm inside, but those interim parts? They could probably use a little work. Also, the song just seems to DIE, as many trance songs do (to give the ravers a chance to score some more eX)

Could I drive to this?: As it is, this song makes me envision many a night of trying to make the 20 minute highway return from dropping off a friend in ~10 (less, if I'm good!). The peppier parts of this song would have no problem putting me in "the zone" for 90 mph driving and quick lane cuts. However, should I hit a slow part when I get to that part of the highway with the super hairpin curve then my poor driving skills will ensure that I'm going to feel nothing but the warm embrace of the concrete tunnel's wall. Do you want that on your conscience, S|r NutS?

egM is a curious sort of fellow that I've never been able to get a handle on. The guy seems to be able to hold his own, though and when that little "doo doo doo DOO DOO DOO DOO" that I love so much starts to kick in at 0'38 I'm on nothing but cloud nine. A mix with more presence than S|r NutS (though with a noticably dirtier feel) I would say that I'm quite happy with this. It sucks that, like with S|r NutS's work, this song just fades away. I suppose this will lead to easy repetition. With less than 3 minutes of run time you could probably just repeat this song ad nauseum!

Could I drive to this?: When I imagine scenarios of where this song can come in handy, it is when I need to power race to school those mornings where I say to myself "I have a car available to me today, I can wait until quarter of ten to make the twenty minute drive to school". With enough volume, I think this song would aid me in my frenzied 8 minute run down Lancaster avenue.

Until next week!
