One Year Ago...

March 3, 2004 By Glenn Turner
Personally, I always preferred the pink to the soothing blue.

Some newer visitors may not remember, but The New Gamer spawned from a previous site that myself, unitdaisy, the_notorious and nylar (both of ex-Drunkgamers fame) created to fulfill a want to write about general culture in a sarcastic and insightful manner. That website was, either ironically or lazily called thenewsite and was launched exactly one year ago to a less than stellar reception. Still, the site lumbered around until it's lack of focus (and reasonable updates) doomed it to obscurity. On November 3rd of 2003 unitdaisy and myself launched The New Gamer, abandoning what little of thenewsite was left so we could concentrate soley on writing about games.

Now, while thenewsite was never what I would call a success, and even if it was a frustrating experience I do owe a lot to it - if it wasn't for the_notorious approaching me about writing for a new site he wanted to get off the ground, you would not be reading these words nor any of the roughly 100 or so articles I've written over the past year. Chicago-style Drunksaling would still be a minor footnote in my link repository and I'd probably have a lot more free time on my hands. Regardless, thenewsite taught me many valuable lessons, and I would like to think that those lessons are paying off with The New Gamer and hopefully all of you all feel the same.

So let's take a moment to honor thenewsite for without it, this would just be a 404 error!

Okay, that's long enough. A new Gamer Remix Review coming up next! And if you're interested in perusing thenewsite as it was back then, check out thenewsite archive!
