Chi-Style Drunksaling - The Drunkgamers Forum Weeks: Week #4

January 23, 2004 By Glenn Turner

The following is our fourth Chicago-Style Drunksaling post to the old Drunkgamers.com forums. If you're unfamiliar with Drunkgamers.com, occasionally they would go out drinking and go garage saling for video games and then post about it. Unitdaisy and I were inspired to do the same and posted the bulk of our first year finds in their forums, and in fact if it weren't for drunksaling you probably wouldn't be reading this site right now. We'll be posting one from the archives every other week or until the weather turns spring-like in Chicago which means that yes, we have quite a few of them. Even a few that I lost and recently recovered on an old hard drive.

Ah, see this week is much better. We finally nailed our formula and haven't really changed things much since this week. The below article is from June 23th, 2002.

peccaui: Well, the fun had to end some time. This week made for some slim pickings. Then again, it wasn't an extremely optimal weekend for it - we were forced to deal with Sunday garage sales (which usually bodes poorly), and we got to face the swelting heat and smog of Chicago in the daylight. This coupled with the fact that we spent almost all night in a Samba De Amigo/Crazy Taxi marathon (with sprinklings of Fatal Frame) and way too much rum - well, we were in poor shape.

unitdaisy: the sunday thing was my fault, oh how i loath having to work weekends!

peccaui: Our first sale was an alley sale a few blocks nested deep within our neighborhood.

peccaui:Ahh, alley sales. There's nothing as grand as sifting through other people's trash while the stench of urine floats in the air. Why don't we just call these sales what they really are: homeless sims.

unitdaisy: there was a strange young hustler at this group sale that though he had us pegged and kept coming up to us holding different items and trying to pitch them 'hey, you guys look like you would really enjoy this...' (sadly no picture of bendable wire toy available)

peccaui: The only game we found this week. And there's nothing funny about that.

peccaui: Despite the fact that unitdaisy already has this cd, she is going to pawn it off onto some sucker on ebay and make a 'fortuna' off of it! Oh, my puns are worthy of Piers Anthony himself!

unitdaisy: i revel in the fact that i paid nothing for the first copy, and $1 for this one...

peccaui: The first garage sale that didn't occur when it was supposed to. There's nothing I love more than being shafted by slacker yuppies because they'd rather enjoy their starbucks premium mocca-cocoa-latte-cream-crap than open up their garage when they advertised it.

unitdaisy: even a sign saying 'sorry, we changed our minds, we decided we didn't need the money so we threw everything in the trash (because we love reminding ourselves how much disposable income we have)' would have ben appreciated...

peccaui: After being stood-up by the previous sale, we embarked on a half-an-hour trip that mostly consisted of sitting on the sidewalk and sweating.

unitdaisy: sadly no one gave us money...

peccaui: For our efforts, we were rewarded with another mystery sale that had disappeared into thin air. We were not amused. Lets just say that their lawn spells out 'grifters' real nice-like now/

peccaui: We stumbled on to this sale while I was using the telephone pole to "cure my hangover". Yeah, the sale was about as exciting as it sounds. Want some Faberge Eggs?

peccaui: The heat and humidity were so atrocious that I could not manage to hold the camera up.

unitdaisy: i am amazed you had enough energy to depress the button...

peccaui: And with that, we called it a day. Between my pounding head, the anti-sales and Red Rose Tea figurines, we decided it'd be best if we just went home to forget about this week's drunksaling. I'd suggest that you do the same.
